
Tom’s practice includes a wide range of tax law matters including tax planning, company law, corporate reorganizations, trusts, estate planning and succession planning for family businesses for clients. He has considerable experience dealing with the Canada Revenue Agency and representing taxpayers in income tax and GST appeals. Tom also advises clients with charitable giving and has established a large number of non-profit societies, registered charities and private foundations.
Tom graduated with a Diploma of Technology from BCIT in 1977, a Bachelor of Business Administration from Simon Fraser University in 1987 and a law degree from UBC in 1987. He subsequently completed the three year Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA) In-Depth Tax Program in 1991, the Advanced CICA Corporate Reorganizations Course, Wealth Preservation Course and International Tax Course. Prior to joining Pushor Mitchell, he practiced tax, trusts and charities law with a Vancouver firm.
Tom is one of the authors of the B.C. Company Law Practice Manual and the B.C. Corporation Law Guide. He is a member of the CCH Corporate Law Advisory Board and a frequent author, presenter and seminar leader on topics relating to tax, trusts, estate planning and the B.C. Business Corporations Act.
Away from the office, Tom enjoys camping, hiking and traveling with his family and recently he has been seen frequenting the local arenas honing his hockey skills.
