Tom is a partner with Pushor Mitchell LLP who serves a wide range of clients in the areas of income tax appealstax and estate planning, wealth management, trustsincorporationscorporate reorganizations, charities law and family foundations.

For over 35 years, Tom has been helping business owners, professionals, and high income and high net worth individuals to create tailored solutions to avoid tax problems and minimize taxes, drawing upon both his extensive experience in tax planning and conducting income tax and GST appeals and his numerous dealings over many years with the Canada Revenue Agency.

Tom advises family-owned businesses on matters relating to business succession, corporate reorganizations, family trusts, and tax minimization strategies, helping clients to protect their assets and to create tax planning strategies for the future. Tom also assists high income and high net worth individuals with estate planning strategies, alter ego and joint spousal trusts and advises clients with tax-efficient charitable giving.  He has established many non-profit societies, registered charities and private foundations.

Tom has both a law degree from UBC and a Business Administration degree from Simon Fraser University.  He has also completed the three-year In-Depth Tax Program from the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA), as well as the Advanced CICA Corporate Reorganizations Course, the Wealth Preservation Course and the International Tax Course. He has authored numerous chapters and articles on tax, estate planning and company law and is a frequent presenter and seminar leader on topics relating to tax, trusts, estate planning and ethics.

A Kelowna resident since 1992, Tom is active in several professional and community initiatives. He is the Past President of the Kelowna Museums Society. He is a Director and President of the Kelowna Bar Association. He has served as Director and Chair of the Board of the Central Okanagan Foundation and as President of the Kelowna Estate Planning Society.

He was elected as the Bencher of the Law Society of British Columbia for the Okanagan District for the maximum of four terms (8 years) and is now Life Bencher of the Law Society of BC. He is also a contributing author for the Continuing Legal Education Society Company Law Practice Manual. Tom was appointed as “Queen’s Council” in 2020 (now called “King’s Council or K.C.”).

Away from the office, Tom enjoys skiing, biking, hiking and traveling with his family.
