Alf Kempf is a senior litigator whose practice focuses on labour and employment law as well as commercial and insolvency matters. He provides pragmatic advice and guidance on legal matters with a view to timely conclusion and avoidance of protracted ligation where possible.  Alf has succeeded at all levels of court in British Columbia, as well as before numerous administrative boards and tribunals.

Alf provides pragmatic advice and guidance on employment law disputes to both employees and employers. Workers who have been dismissed or injured on the job, or who wish to compete against their former employer, turn to Alf for assistance in understanding their options and seeking fair compensation. Companies of all sizes throughout the Okanagan Valley also seek out his expertise in disputes with employees, unions, or the worker’s compensation board.

An experienced litigator with a strong focus on clients’ best interests, Alf conducts his cases in a practical and efficient manner. He provides clients with timely information and cost estimates up front, helping them constantly weigh the potential outcome of litigation against the likely costs. Where appropriate, Alf applies flexible approaches like alternate dispute resolution; at the same time, Alf is a highly experienced litigator who has succeeded at all levels of court in British Columbia, as well as before numerous administrative boards and tribunals.

Alf is very active in both the legal profession and the local community. He has conducted several highly regarded courses regarding employment law, disabilities, and the elimination of mandatory retirement and has authored numerous articles on labour and employment law. He has also served in key roles at both the local and provincial level in provincial and federal politics. A graduate of the University of British Columbia (Commerce and Law degrees), he joined Pushor Mitchell in 1982.

Away from the office, Alf is a dedicated husband to Jane and father to his two daughters. The girls have forced him into the role of rodeo dad, which involves driving them around the continent to rodeo competitions. Alf grew up on an orchard in the area and is still engaged in that as a hobby.  Away from the office Alf enjoys golf, skiing, cycling and puttering around his farm.
