Professional Development
Our success has been built on the strength of the legal skills and knowledge of our lawyers and staff and their ability to take that knowledge and relate and apply it to the practical problems of our clients. It is critical to our success that all our lawyers and staff continually expand their legal knowledge and remain current with emerging law and procedures in their practice areas.
We have a lawyer in charge of monitoring all upcoming Continuing Legal Education courses to ensure that the appropriate lawyers and staff attend.
Having attended a course, the lawyer or staff member is then required to put on an in-house seminar to ensure that all other lawyers and staff practicing in that area of law are kept apprised of current legal developments.
Each lawyer also receives and reviews weekly e-mail case digest updates from Continuing Legal Education in each of his own practice areas. We subscribe to and review the e-mail case digests for Municipal Law, Commercial, Real Property, Civil Litigation, Personal Injury, and many others.
We have also established practice groups for each area of law. These practice groups meet regularly. We ensure that our articled students and junior lawyers learn from the experience of our senior lawyers. Our junior lawyers are also encouraged to review legal strategies with our senior lawyers. We often have junior lawyers assist in trials, at no cost to the client, in order for the junior lawyer to gain valuable trial experience.
Our goal when we hire an articled student is to ensure the student develops his or her legal and client skills to the point where they can become a partner in our firm. To achieve that goal we make it our practice to provide them with every available practice development tool. We have a structured Articling Program for articled students to ensure they receive a broad range of experience in all areas of law during their articles. |
