Ontario, New Brunswick Introduce Legislation Providing Paid Leave To Armed Forces Reservists

The two latest Canadian jurisdictions to introduce employment standards changes, entitling armed forces reservists unpaid leave while on duty, are Ontario and New Brunswick.
The federal government announced recently that it, too, will be introducing a bill to protect the jobs of reservists while they are serving on active duty for the Canadian armed forces.  Labour Minister Jean Pierre Blackburn stated that federal officials are working out the details, but expects the bill to be introduced in the House of Commons early in 2008.
The growing list of Canadian jurisdictions offering job protection to reservists while on leave will, sometime early in 2008, include the federal jurisdiction and those of Ontario, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, and Saskatchewan.
