Canadian Privacy Commish Calls For Anti-spam Law


The Canadian government should enshrine spam e-mailing and identity theft as offences in the Criminal Code lest Canada become a haven for scam artists, the country's Privacy Commissioner said yesterday. Spam, or unsolicited mass e-mails sent for commercial or fraudulent purposes, has mushroomed in Canada in recent years, as have instances of identity theft, Jennifer Stoddart said at a news conference that kicked off fraud prevention month.
